Colin Moore Joins Grand View Media Group as Editorial Director
JULY 24, 2006, BIRMINGHAM, ALA. - Grand View Media Group, publisher of consumer, business-to-business and custom magazines, recently chose Colin Moore, an avid outdoorsman and 23-year veteran in the outdoor publishing field, as editorial director for its Outdoor Group. Moore will manage the editorial staff and direct the content of Grand View's 16 outdoor publications, which include custom, consumer and business titles such as Bowhunting World, Predator Xtreme, Cabela's Outfitter Journal, Mossy Oak Hunting the Country, Whitetail Journal and the Black's sporting directories for waterfowl, fly fishing and bow hunting.
Grand View Media recruited Moore from Time, Inc., in New York City, where since 2000 he had served as executive director for Outdoor Life, one of the oldest outdoor publications in the country and sister publication to Field & Stream and Saltwater Sportsman. During that time, Moore assigned and edited the story that won the prestigious Luce Award for best magazine feature of the year in 2005. This is an award Time, Inc. gives annually for one article chosen from more than 80 Time, Inc. titles, which include Time, Sports Illustrated, People and Fortune.
Barry Lovette, general manager of Grand View Media Group, said, "We wanted to find the best person in the industry as our new editorial director. We polled all of our industry contacts and almost without exception, Colin Moore was the name that came back to us. We then presented Colin with the opportunity, and he accepted the challenge. Grand View Media Group is very excited about Colin's addition to our team as his wealth of talent and experience will positively impact our business."
Moore's career in magazine editing began in 1983, when he was named editor for Marlin magazine, a publication that targets big-game fishing enthusiasts. Moore also worked for B.A.S.S. Publications in Montgomery, Ala., for 14 years, where he started or edited a variety of titles, including Southern Saltwater, B.A.S.S. Fishing Techniques, The BASSMASTER Tour and Guns & Gear. He also produced custom titles for Realtree Outdoors, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the National Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management.
Bruce Stanton, general manager of PRADCO-Fishing, the company that produces popular brands such as Rebel®, Bomber®, Booyah®, XCalibur® and others, has a longstanding relationship with Moore from his work at Southern Outdoors, B.A.S.S. and Outdoor Life and is pleased Moore will be joining Grand View Media. "Colin Moore bats lead-off on the all-star team of editors in the outdoor magazine business. He is a true gentleman and is a passionate participant in the sports of hunting and fishing. He is an outstanding writer and editor and knows how to generate stories and ideas that are timely, meaningful and interesting to the readers," Stanton says.
Moore holds a bachelor or arts degree in journalism and English from Murray State University and a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. He will draw on his lifelong interest in hunting and fishing to succeed as editorial director of the Outdoor Group. Moore and his wife of 35 years, Brenda, look forward to returning to Alabama and their Southern roots.
